Those of us who were taught history as a series dates of wars or battles, 1776 gives us an opportunity to learn history as it should be tought. We learn of the problems that John Adams had getting a Declaration of Independence and his love and affection for Abigail.
Thomas Jefferson was a young farmer who swept his bride off her feet by playing the violin. At one point Adams comes up with a plan for Thomas Jefferson to get a conjugal visit from his wife so that Jefferson could make more progress on the Declaraion without distraction.
Throughout the movie we learn of the foibles and personalities of our forefathers and find out just how close we came to not having this great country. One thing is for certain, Congress really never changes.
