Star Trek 2009

Star Trek 2009

Simply awesome. The acting was phenomenal. All of the actors did an excellent job of keeping with the spirit of the characters, but also not copying them and making them relevant and modern at the same time. The deep references to other parts of the Star Trek universe will keep every Star Trek fan going over the movie again and again to mine for more hidden gems of hidden references.

I love the reference to captain Archer’s beagle. That was outstanding.

At two hours it was long, but I was loving every minute so it actually seemed short. The pace was quick and kept you wanting more and more.

Zac Quinto proved to be an excellent Spock. His mastery of his own emotion was phenomenal. He went from rage to cool and collected like a champ.

I’m not a big fan of messing with time travel as it can screw with your head or manipulate story lines in ways that seem almost unfair, but I think this movie did a good job of making it so they couldn’t keep jumping through time and minimized the ridiculous effect that time travel has in some stories. All in all excellent movie. I will definitely consider seeing this again.

One Response to “Star Trek 2009”

  1. Mark Herzberg says:

I have to disagree that the movie was awesome. Other Star Trek movies have been better.

This installment of the Star Trek saga left me feeling like something was missing. The character development was weak and I didn’t feel like I got to know the characters.

The plot would have been better served with a more formidable appearing antagonist. Sure, they can plant red matter and initiate a black hole, but how does that compare with The Borg or one of the other nemises that Kirk and the crew come up against in later adventures?

All in all, I would give the movie a B.

PS. It was about a half hour too long.
